Singapore Artists has always worked to promote and support the arts in their country. They have organised numerous exhibitions and public performances that showcased the finest of local and international talent in a comprehensive manner. The most important of these annual events are the Singapore Biennale and the Singapore Art Gallery Festival. Both these exhibitions and performances are renowned for their exhibition of international contemporary artists as well as national and regional talent.
The Singapore Biennale is held annually between April and June, where a range of prominent national and international artists display their art at various events including the Singapore Biennale Celebration. At this exhibition, Singaporean artists carry out a series of installations highlighting different aspects of life in Singapore, ranging from traditional rural activities to daily life in the city. Among the participating artists are Loo Zihan, Wee Yean Een and Soon Uyen. All of these artists have gained popularity and respect worldwide due to the quality of their art.
Another important event for the Singapore artists is the Singapore Lesbian Gay International Festival or the GLBTI festival as it is commonly known as. This colourful and vibrant festival showcases the contributions made by the GLBT community to the society and the creative industry of Singapore. Held during the month of June, this bi-cultural festival showcases the diverse art practices and expressions by the gay and lesbian community all over the world. The festival is also accompanied by the Queer Sculpture Festival. Apart from the regular Gay and Lesbian events, this festival is one of the most colourful events that celebrate the love and respect for people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (lesbian, gay, transgendered).
The Singapore Art Gallery and the Singapore Biennale are the most important and prominent exhibitions and performances of Singapore artists internationally. These shows are organised after every two years and showcase an array of different artists whose works are seen in the country. In between these exhibitions, there are a series of pop-up exhibits and public entertainment events like the annual Pangea Festival and the Singapore Family Party. These are just a few public entertainment events that are organized by the government and private sectors in Singapore, in collaboration with other institutions to enhance the quality of life of residents and tourists in the city state.
The National Arts Centre and the Arts Council of Singapore is the in charge of the promotion of arts across the country.
